Hey there friends! We have been studying and writing creation myths in English, and now it’s my turn to introduce myself on this blog. I’ll use the BIG questions about identity, meaning, and purpose that creation myths explore as my inspiration. Here are 8 things that provide some insight about who I am.
1. Where I come from:
I was born in Boston Massachusetts, and was raised on Nantucket Island until I was 3. Since then my family and I have been living in Santa Barbara, CA.
2. What matters:
A strong sense of trust has always been important to me with those who I am close to. My dad always says, "Treat others how you want to be treated," and those words have stuck with me for my whole life. I feel that respect is key, and that one should always be kind and compassionate. Along with these traits, my family (+horse), friends, and acquaintances matter to me, as they make my life filled with joy.
3. What I Love:
Most of all, I love my family. My parents provide me with a life that is happy and loving. My siblings (although sometimes a pain) give me the inside on what not to do. My sister, Morgan, has always been my rock. Some say that were basically twins, but I disagree. Bailey, my brother, is my look into reality when I get off track. Everyone in my family is supportive of one another, and I really love that. I also love my hobbies such as photography, riding and other sports.
4. Where I am going:
This question is one that could have multiple answers, but since I'm a somewhat lazy person, I'll make this short. I see myself being very successful in life. I'd like to eventually start up a company that will benefit peoples' lives. On the other hand, I would love to become a professional athlete, whether it be an equestrian or a track 'kid'.
5. What I dread:
Most people that know me understand that public speaking is a huge fear of mine. Besides that, I dread situations where there is an enormous amount of pressure to be perfect, or to do my absolute best.
6. What I hope for:
I hope that there will eventually be world peace and equality. We live in a world where the average woman makes 78 cents to a man's dollar. Keep in mind that each gender is working the same exact job. This just goes to show that gender inequality in a huge issue. Along with this, human poverty is a major problem all over the globe. Over 80% of the world's population lives on less than $10 a day. As I sit here, typing on my computer, its hard to believe that some people don't even have a bed to sleep on at night, a meal to eat every day. I hope that these issues can be resolved so that humanity as a whole can be happy, healthy and peaceful.
7. What I need:
I need love from my family, support from my friends and a good education to lead me into a successful life. I suppose that what I really need is a happy life, which I already have. All the extra things are just fluff. The very occasional PSL from Starbucks is of course, a necessity.
8. Who I am:
It's hard to define who I am, when there are so many parts that make up a person. Sure, some people could say I'm a horse-crazed girl, but there's more to one than what they do, what they believe in. I guess that I could say that I am an insightful 13 year old, but there's more to me than I can say. I find it difficult to make up in words what kind of person I am. I think the real question here is: what makes up a person? Does a person's personality automatically define who one is? Some online quiz was able to calculate what personality type I was without even knowing who I am. For all I know, my answers could be completely different tomorrow. I guess that after all this, my answer is, I am who I am.
